Questions organisations ask
Do we keep ownership of our recordings and content?+
Yes. Copyright and ownership remain with the organisation and creators. The Grey Hill provides distribution, audience reach and platform services, while ownership of the underlying content remains with the rights holders. Specific distribution arrangements, including any exclusive options, are agreed separately for each project.
Can we start small and upgrade later?+
That is how most organisations do it. Friend costs nothing and lets you see how your audience responds. When you have content ready to publish or an event you want to run, we talk about Ally. Nothing you have built is lost when you move up.
Do we need technical expertise?+
No. You do not need a developer, a digital team or any new software of your own. We handle the platform, the files and the selling. What we need from you is the work itself and someone we can talk to.
What's the difference between Friend, Ally and Partner?+
Friend lets you start earning from your existing audience at no cost. Ally adds the tools and support to publish digital content and run your own events. Partner goes further still, with The Grey Hill delivering a monthly ticketed author livestream, ongoing social media management and the highest revenue opportunities across the tiers, acting as an extension of your team.
How do digital events work?+
Digital events cover a wide range of formats, including author interviews, workshops, Q&As, panel discussions and audio theatre launches, all delivered as ticketed livestreams. Audiences submit questions in advance or live, and the recording is kept afterwards and made available alongside related content for future sales. Friend and Ally can commission these as one-off or optional extra events. Partner includes one produced and delivered every month as standard, with the flexibility to trade that slot for something else when it suits the venue better.
Can we sell our own content?+
Yes. From Ally onwards you can sell your own ebooks, audiobooks, recordings and digital events, individually or as bundles, and attach them to live performances through a unique code or link.
What revenue opportunities are available at each level?+
Revenue opportunities increase as you move through the tiers. Friend earns through referral commission and future subscription access. Ally adds higher revenue opportunities across digital sales, events and subscriptions. Partner has the highest revenue opportunities across the whole model, reflecting its role as a full delivery partnership rather than a supporting service.
How long does it take to get started?+
Joining The Grey Hill can take days rather than weeks. The timeline is usually shaped by your organisation's priorities rather than the technology itself. Some partners are ready to begin immediately, while others take longer to decide how digital publishing, events or audience development fit into their plans. We'll work at the pace that suits your organisation.
Not sure which level fits?
A short conversation is usually enough to work out where to start. There is no obligation and no cost to talk.
