About the Ebook

More Tales from The Island Nurse is the much‑anticipated second helping of Mary J. MacLeod’s warm, witty and deeply human stories from her time as the district nurse on the fictional island of ‘Papavray’ in the 1970s.

Her anecdotes brim with charm, humour and common sense — from crofters and ceilidhs to stubborn drivers, pesky cows, treacherous bogs and even a suspected haunting. But alongside the laughter lie moments of profound sadness, including the heartbreaking story of a desperate mother and a baby’s untimely death.

For a district nurse, human tragedy, joy and laughter are all in a day’s work — and Mary J. captures it all with warmth, honesty and a storyteller’s gift.

This volume follows her final years on the island and her eventual move to a very different life in California.
